How it works

Scored fly picks

Each fly is scored against the active hatch, time of day, and month. Dry flies drop in score when no hatch is active; streamers and nymphs hold value year-round. The top 3 per window are surfaced automatically.

Time-of-day windows

Morning (5–10am), mid-day (10am–4pm), and evening (4–9pm) each carry different weight multipliers — mornings and evenings favor dry flies and emergers when hatches are active; mid-day leans nymphs and streamers.

Live data sources

Hatch calendars are hand-curated from regional fly shop logs. USGS gauges power the water temp and flow readings on individual river pages. Stocking data links go directly to the state agency.

Coverage

Rivers across CT, MA, VT, NY, and PA — 94 named sections covering tailwaters, freestone runs, and catch-and-release zones.

Hatch timing is hand-curated from regional fly shop calendars and angler reports — not a computer model. Always verify current CT DEEP fishing regulations before heading out. Something off? Tell us.
